Nervous System Flashcards
1
Q
Describe how the body responds to a stimuli
A
1) Receptors detect the stimuli
2) Impulse / message is carried along sensory neurons to the spinal cord
3) From the spinal cord, impulse is sent up to the brain where it processes the message
4) A response / action is generated then sent back down to the spinal cord
5) This is carried through the interneurons into motor neurone
6) Carried the response to the effector (e.g. muscle, gland, organ)
7) The effector generates and does the response / action required
2
Q
What is the function of the Nervous System?
A
- To receive info about external environment (temp, sound, light)
- To receive info about tissues and organs of the animals own body
- To interoperate info received
- To send impulses throughout the body to stimulative activity
3
Q
What does the Cerebrospinal Fluid do
A
- Surrounds the CNS to absorb shock
- Separates the brain from rest of body fluids
- Made up of cells for protection from blood composition change, toxins and pathogens
4
Q
Describe the CNS (Central Nervous System)
A
- The brain and spinal cord form the CNS
- Controls most functions and responses in body
