What are hormones?
Hormones are chemical messengers produced by glands. They are released directly into the blood and travel to the target organ. The cells of the target organ contain receptors to which the hormone can bind.
What hormones do pituitary glands produce and what is their function?
The pituitary gland produces LH and FSH which is involved in reproduction. It also produces ADH, which controls the water content of blood, and growth hormones which stimulate growth.
What hormones do thyroid glands produce and what is their function?
Thyroid produce thyroxine which controls metabolism.
What hormones do pancreas glands produce and what is their function?
The pancreas produced insulin and glucagon hormones which control blood glucose levels.
What hormones do adrenal glands produce and what is their function?
Adrenal produces adrenaline hormones which is used for fight or flight (exercise, anxiety or fear) and increasing the heart and breathing rate.
What is a negative feedback system?
Negative feedback systems are used when the body detects that the level of a substance is too high or low so it triggers a response to bring the level back to normal again.
