The Cell Cycle Flashcards
The Cell Cycle depicts the life of a cell
Most of the cells life in spent in _________ where normal metabolic activities are taking place
Interphase
Interphase consists of 3 stages
1) G1
2) S
3) G2
Cell division consists of
1) Mitosis
2) Cytokinesis
Mitosis
Division of the nucleus
Cytokinesis
Division of cytoplasm and remaining organs
G1
The cell grows and produces more organelles
S
All chromosomes are copied (2 sets at the end of this stage)
G2
Cell checks for mutations
Chromosomes (S STAGE)
-Found in the nucleus
-Humans have 23 pairs (46 total) in the nucleus of every body cell
-Made of DNA wrapped around a protein called histone
Chromatin
-During interphase chromosomes exist in a less rigid form called chromatin
-Chromatin condenses into chromosomes as the cell prepares to divide (happens during the end of G2)
MITOSIS STAGES
(PMAT)
Interphase
Prophase
Metaphase
Anaphase
Telophase
Interphase
-Nuclear membrane is completely intact
-Genetic material is chromatin
-Consists of G1, S, and G2 stages
-Normal metabolic activities take place
Prophase
-The nuclear membrane breaks down
-Chromatin condenses into chromosomes
-Centrioles being migrating toward opposite poles and spindle fibers lengthen
Metaphase
-Chromes line up at the middle/equator of the cell
-Centrioles are now located at the poles/ opposite sides of the cell
-Spindle fibers attach to the centromere of chromosomes
