The Cardiac Cycle and Heart Sounds Flashcards
What is late diastole (stage 1)?
Both atria and ventricles relaxed
What is atrial systole (2)?
Atrial contraction forces small amount of blood to ventricle.
What is isovolumetric contraction?
Pushes av valves shut but doesn’t open semilunar valves.
What’s ventricular ejection (4)?
Pressure rises and blood is ejected.
What is isovolumetric ventricular relaxation (5)?
Ventricles relax
What causes the S1 heart sound?
Mitral and tricuspid valves closing
What causes the S2 heart sound?
Aortic and pulmonary valves closing.
What could be the cause of a continuous murmur?
Patent ductus arteriosus
What can cause systolic murmurs?
Aortic/pulmonary stenosis
Mitral/tricuspid regurgitation
What can cause diastolic murmurs?
Mitral/tricuspid stenosis
Aortic/pulmonary regurgitation
What causes the S3 heart sound?
Rapid ventricular filling
Chordae tendineae twang
What causes the S4 heart sound?
Stiff/hypertrophic ventricle
