The Building Blocks Of Life Flashcards
What are all living things made out of ?
Cells
What is a unicellular organism?
A organism that consists of only 1 cell.
What is a multicellular organism?
An organism that consists of multiple cells to make one large organism.
What is a cell?
The smallest thing of any living thing.
What do groups of the same type of cell make?
Tissue
What do large amounts of tissue make ?
Organs
What do organs form?
They form organ systems of multicellular organisms.
How to correctly calculate the total calculation of the magnification?
Times the eye lens and the objective lens together to get the total magnification
What happens if you put the microscope on a low magnification
The image looks small less detailed and allows you to see the whole thing
What happens if the magnification of the microscope is on high power
The magnification would be bigger more detailed and you would only be able to look at part of the full image.
What does the nucleus do
The nucleus acts like the brain of the cell
What does a cell wall do
Protects the organelles inside the cell of a plant cell and gives structured support.
What does a Cell membrane do
A cell wall protects the organelles in an animal cell
What does cytoplasm do
Cytoplasm holds the organelles.
What do Mitochondria do
Mitochondria supplies energy to the cell through respiration
What does chloroplast do
Chloroplast captures energy from uv rays
What does the Vacuole do.
The vacuole stores waste and other materials that are harmful.
What do animal cells have exclusive
They have centrosome and lysosomes whereas plant cells do not
What do plant cells exclusively have
They have a cell wall, chloroplasts and other specialized plastids, and a large central vacuole, whereas animal cells do not.
What does photosynthesis do
Photosynthesis takes in carbon dioxide which is harmful to humans, and releases oxygen which is what humans need to survive
Why is respiration important
Respiration is important because it provides the energy for living organisms to perform all of the other necessary functions to maintain life.
Word equation for photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide + water. –> Glucose + oxygen
Sunlight
Word process of respiration
glucose (sugar) + oxygen = carbon dioxide + water + energy (as ATP)
How are new cells produced
New cells are produced through cell devision
Definition of sexual and needs
With sex, needs a male and female sex cell
Definition of asexual
Without sex and can clone identical copies of it self.
List examples of asexual reproduction
Budding Sending out runners Binary Fission Fragmentation Parthenogenesis
Why is the human reproductive system so important
Its so important because it ensures the survival of a species.
On the diagram label all the parts of a light microscope.
Ocular/eye pice Revolving nose piece 4x objective lens 10x objective lens 40x objective lens Clips Iris diaphragm Light Lens Arm Stage Coarse focus knob Fine focus knob Base
Things to remember when drawing cells
Use a sharp pencil
Draw only lines you see
The diagram should at least take up one third of the page
Record magnification and what it is next to the diagram
