The Brain Flashcards
What are the 4 Functional regions of the adult brain?
Cerebral hemispheres
Diencephalon
Brain stem
Cerebellum
Primary Function of Frontal Lobe?
Controls important cognitive/ Motor skills in humans, such as emotional expression, problem solving, memory, language, judgment, and sexual behaviour.
Primary Function of Parietal lobe?
It processes sensory information regarding the location of parts of the body (Muscles, joint, skin) as well as interpreting visual information and processing language
Primary Function of Occipital lobe?
Is the processing, integration, interpretation, etc. of vision and visual stimuli.
Primary Function of Temporal Lobe?
Hearing
Language comprehension
Memory
Information retrieval
What is the Diencephalon?
The Least developed part of the brain
What is the function for the Thalamus structure in the Diencephalon?
Gateway to the cerebral cortex
Sorts, edits, and relays information
Motor activities, Cortical arousal, learning, and memory
What is the function for the Hypothalamus structure in the Diencephalon?
Autonomic control center for many visceral functions
Center for emotional response
Regulates body temperature, food intake, water balance, and thirst
What is the function for the Epithalamus structure in the Diencephalon?
Contains pineal gland
What is the Brain Stem?
It’s the posterior part of the brain, adjoining and structurally continuous with the spinal cord.
Function of Pons?
Connect higher brain centers and the spinal cord
What is the function of Medulla Oblongata?
Control centres for the heart and lungs.
Function of the Cerebellum?
Receives information from the sensory systems, the spinal cord, and other parts of the brain and then regulates motor movements.
Different sections of the Frontal lobe?
Primary Motor Cortex - Voluntary movements
Pre-Motor Cortex - Motor Skills
Brocas Area - Active when one prepares to speak
Different sections of the Parietal lobe?
Somatosensory Cortex - Sensory info
