the body anatomy Flashcards
what is prone?
when face is lying down
what is supine?
when the body is facing up
what is superior
direction towards the head or upper part of the body
what is inferior
direction away from the head or lower part of the body
what is anterior?
the direction towards or at the front of the body
what is posterior?
direction towards or at the back of the body
what is medial?
direction towards or at the middle of the body /
the inner sider
what is lateral?
direction away from the midline of the body/ the outer side
what is intermediate?
between a more medial and lateral structure, like between two structure
what is proximal?
closer to the origin of the body
or the point of attachment of a limb to the body trunk
what is distal
farther from the origin of the body or the point of attachment of a limb to the body trunk
what is superficial?
it is the direction towards or at the body surface
what is deep?
direction away from the body surface more internal
what is ipsilateral?
its on the same side of the body
what is contralateral?
its the opposite sides of the body
what is parietal?
its the outer wall of the body cavity
what is visceral?
the covering of an organ within the ventral body cavity
what is sagital?
its vertical plane that divides the body into left and right parts
what is frontal?
vertical planes that divide the body into front and back
what is transverse?
horizontal planes that divide the body into top and bottom parts
what is axial?
it makes up the main parts of the body , head neck or trunk
What is appendicular?
consists of appendages which are limbs that are attached to the body
what is ruq . rlq and luq and llq and what are they defined bye
Right upper quadrant, right lower quadrant
left upper quadrant and left lower quadrant
- they have one transverse and one median sagittal plane intersecting through the umbilicus
what are the small body cavities
oral and digestive cavities: the oral cavity is continuous with the cavity of the digestive organs that eventually at the anus opens to the exterior
nasal cavity: located within and posterior to the nose
orbital cavity: two cavities that hold the eyes
middle ear cavities: two cavities which are carved into the temporal bone of the skull , and they lie just medial to the tympanic membranes ,
synovial cavities: these are joint cavities which are enclosed within fibrous capsules that surround freely movable joint
what is the veretbral column
flexible bony column that extends from the base of the skull to the small of the back
they provide attachment for the muscles of the back
and vertebrae are connected to each other via fibrocartilage discs bound by ligament
how many vertebrae do humans have?
CTL=3
Cervical 7
thoracic12
lumbar 5
sacrum 5 fused
cocyxx 4 fused
what is the upper respiratory?
this includes the nose, nasal cavity, the mouth , throat and the voice box
what is the lower respiratory?
the trachea , bronchi, bronchioles and the alveoli
how many lobes does the lung have on the right and left
right =3
left 2
as the heart is on the left side
what is the conducting zone?
it consists of fairly rigid structured that conducts air to the sites of gaseous exchanges
it cleanses, humidifies and warms the incoming air
what is the respiratory zone?
this is where gas exchanges occurs . the respiratory bronchioles, alveolar ducts and alveoli from the respiratory zone
