Test 2: school age child problems Flashcards
redness and swelling of the skin, occurs when extremities, usually the hands are exposed intermittently to temperature of 30-60 degrees F
As warming takes place, the sensations become intense but ordinarily subside in a few days
Chilblain
tissue damage caused when excessive heat loss to local tissues allows ice crystals to form in tissues.
When frozen tissues thaw, the tissue damage is like that from a high temperature burn, the frostbitten part appears white or blanched, feels solid and is without sensation.
Rapid rewarming is associated with less tissue necrosis and extreme pain when sensation returns
Frostbite
The cooling of the body’s core temperature to injurious levels
Hypothermia
Is an acute cutaneous disorder that may be associated with infections (usually viral) or ingestion of drugs
Urticarial plaque with a dusky or vesicular center, which appears primarily on the palms, soles, and extensor surfaces
Erythema multiform
Lesions of the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes; fever and multiple systemic symptoms
It begins with flulike symptoms (malaise, sore throat, fever, and sever headache)
Mucous membrane ulceration often becomes sever enough to interfere with eating, and many patients have pulmonary involvement
Erythema multiform exudativum (Steven Johnson syndrome)
Generalized erythematous rash that rapidly evolves unto bullae and peeling
Topical epidermal necrolysis (lyell disease)
