Test 2 Flashcards
1
Q
Eukaryotes
A
- genetic information is enclosed in a membrane-bound nucleus
- It is believed that they evolved from prokaryotes (the endosymbiont theory)
- Undergo mitosis for cell division
- large in size
- have membrane bound organelles
2
Q
Prokaryotes
A
- bacteria
- don’t have their genetic information enclosed by a nucleus, it just floats freely through out the cytoplasm
- undergo binary fission for cell division- a form of a sexual reproduction, basically the cloning of cells (don’t need mitosis because there is no nucleus to split)
- small in size
- don’t have membrane bound organelles
- believed to have evolved first
3
