Terms Flashcards
FRC
Functional residual capacity
Amount of air that resides in the lungs after tidal inspiration
ERV
Espiratory reserve volume
Additional air that can be further expelled after today expiration
VC
Vital capacity
Amount of air that can be expelled from lungs after max inspiration
RV
Residual volume
Amount of air in lungs that cannot be expelled
Bohr effect
Right shift, allow Hb to drop off more O2 to active tissues, stuck in T state
Causes: increase temp and organic phosphate, decrease pH
Why does hypothyroidism from birth cause cretinism
TH has permissive effects on GH
Lack of TH = GH cannot work properly
Why lower phosphate in people with low calcium
Bc phosphate will bind to calcium and form crystals and very little Ca will be left for bone deposition
Fasting graph
Glucose- middle
Glucagon- increased
Insulin- decreased bc no glucose released
Drink pop
Glucose- increase
Insulin- increase
Glucagon- decrease
