Techical Drawings Flashcards
What is orthographic projection?
It’s the name given to technical dimensioned drawings. Third angle projection is the most common.
What is sectional view?
They are produced to show the internal detail of an object. They cut away part of the object to show what is left. Hidden detail is never shown.
What’s a herringbone cross hatching pattern?
When the lines join when hatching two materials. It should be clear where they change.
What is a full sectional view?
This is when the cut is all the way through the object.
What are items that don’t get sectioned?
Webs
Studs
Gear teeth
Axles
Pins
Ball bearings
Nuts
Bolts
Keys
Roller bearings
Screws
What is a half sectional view?
A half section view cuts away a quarter of an object. They cut away half of a full section.
What is a step sectional view?
They can also be called offset sections. They allow the cutting plane to change direction.
What is a revolved sectional view?
Is showed the sectional view within the elevation of an object and are rotated around the centre line at 90^ to it. They are useful when saving space and showing the section of a long constant sectioned object.
What is a removed sectional view?
They are similiar to revolved sections but the drawing is outside the original view. A cutting plane is used to show wheee the section is made. They are used to show small details and help with clear dimensioning. They are often drawn in enlarged scales.
What is a part sectional view?
They are used when only a small part of the internal shape is required. You can define the outside of a part section with a break line or a combination of a break line and centra line.
What are flat surfaces represented as in drawings?
A cross
What is an isometric view?
It is a type of pictorial view which is drawn at 30^. They are often used to produce 3D views as they can show as realistic.
What is an assembly drawing?
They are produced when various parts of a product are assembled. They are not normally dimensioned and there is no hidden detail.
What is an exploded view?
Is it when components of a product are separated along an axis. Components must not overlap and are useful when showing how a product is manufactured.
What is an auxiliary view?
This are views which look at an angle. The rules of projection are still followed but take place at a perpendicular angle. This can show particular parts of a drawing in more detail.
