Q

What is sectional view?

A

They are produced to show the internal detail of an object. They cut away part of the object to show what is left. Hidden detail is never shown.

Q

What is a step sectional view?

A

They can also be called offset sections. They allow the cutting plane to change direction.

Q

What is a revolved sectional view?

A

Is showed the sectional view within the elevation of an object and are rotated around the centre line at 90^ to it. They are useful when saving space and showing the section of a long constant sectioned object.

Q

What is a removed sectional view?

A

They are similiar to revolved sections but the drawing is outside the original view. A cutting plane is used to show wheee the section is made. They are used to show small details and help with clear dimensioning. They are often drawn in enlarged scales.

Q

What is a part sectional view?

A

They are used when only a small part of the internal shape is required. You can define the outside of a part section with a break line or a combination of a break line and centra line.

Q

What is an isometric view?

A

It is a type of pictorial view which is drawn at 30^. They are often used to produce 3D views as they can show as realistic.

Q

What is an assembly drawing?

A

They are produced when various parts of a product are assembled. They are not normally dimensioned and there is no hidden detail.

Q

What is an exploded view?

A

Is it when components of a product are separated along an axis. Components must not overlap and are useful when showing how a product is manufactured.

Q

What is an auxiliary view?

A

This are views which look at an angle. The rules of projection are still followed but take place at a perpendicular angle. This can show particular parts of a drawing in more detail.

16
Q

What is an ellipse?

A

They are like squashed circles. They are dimensioned using the major axis and minor axis.

17
Q

What is internal tangency?

A

Internal tangency is when a circle or arc is inside another. You subtract the radis of the arcs or circles from each other.

18
Q

What is external tangency?

A

When the circles or arcs are outside each other. You add the radi together.

19
Q

What is the interpenetration of cylinders?

A

It is the name given to the line where two joined pipes meet.

20
Q

How to find the intersection of prisms?

A

There is a 45^ bounce line used to generate the lengths of the edges of the prisms where the intersection comes from.

21
Q

What is true length and true shape?

A

It shows the true view of a sloping surface.

22
Q

What is a surface development?

A

They are flat shapes which either fold or roll to make a 3D object. It is commonly used when manufacturing a sheet of metal.

23
Q

What is an oblique view?

A

It is the most simplistic pictorial view. It is drawn from the front as an elevation and projected back at 45^.

This is good as it clearly shows the front shape.

24
Q

What is a planometric view?

A

It is commonly used by interior designers. It clearly displays the internal details of a room. It is either drawn at 45^ and 45^ or 30^ and 60^.

25
Q

What is a perpspective view?

A

It is a realistic method of sketching where lengths appear to get smaller the further away they move from the viewer. The lines are all taken from a vanishing point. There are 1 and 2 point perspectives drawings.
