What is a project set and what is required in it and their scales?
A project set is required before building work can begin. They are required to guide people such as builders, plumbers and joiners. Drawings are also required by the local building standards department who check that the construction is safe and energy efficient. The planning department also needs to see them to check that the appearance of the proposed building fits in with its surroundings. These departments then decide it the project can go ahead.
They must include:
- Location plan (block plan), scale 1:1250 or 1:1500
- Site plan, scale 1:200 or 1:500
- Floor plan, scale 1:50
- Elevations, scale 1:100 or 1:50
- Sections, scale 1:20
What is a location plan and what are common features of it?
Scale: 1:1250
Shows the area surrounding the proposed building.
Surrounding streets and buildings are shown.
What is a site plan?
Scale: 1:200
Shows where the building will be built and its immediate surrounding area.
May include, drainage, gas pipe work and electrical supply cables.
What is a floor plan and sectional view of building?
Scale: 1:50
Floor plan shows the layout of the floor of the building.
It may include walls, doors, switches, sinks.
Sectional view shows the interior of the building.
