2D Computer Aided Design Flashcards
LINE TOOL
Straight lines can be drawn.
CIRCLE TOOL
Allows you to produce circles.
RECTANGLE TOOL
This tool allows rectangles and squares to be drawn.
ELLIPSE TOOL
This allows elipses to be drawn.
TRIM TOOL
Unnecessary lines can be removed from a sketch. These lines may have previously assisted the drawing and are no longer needed.
MIRROR TOOL
This allows you to create a mirror image of a shape.
LAYERS IN CAD
You can draw different details on different layers. This means they can be viewed independently or together and easily edited without changing the whole drawing.
ARRAYS
Linear array is when objects are repeated in a line.
Box array is when objects are repeated in a box shape.
Radial array is when objects are repeated in a circle around a point.
OFFSET TOOL
This can create a shape to a specified distance from another line or the edge of a shape.
PROJECT EDGE TOOL
This allows you to take a length or chain or lengths from a solid copy onto a sketch. This is useful when you need to repeat the lengths. Offend used in top down modelling.
EXTEND TOOL
Lines can be extended from sketched to meet the beginning of another sketch.
CONSTRAINTS
LINEAR
A linear constraint will lock a straight line to a vertical or horizontal direction.
PERPENDICULAR
This will lock a line at right angles to another line.
RADIUS OR DIAMETRE
This constraint allows the radii or diameter of a circle in a sketch to lock to a specific size. This is useful when a number of circles of the same size are required.
PARALLEL
This will lock two lines parallel to each other which is useful especially when drawing angled lines.
TANGENT
A tangent constraint will shape a circle to a straight line at a tangent point.
CONCENTRIC
This helps you draw circles with the same centre points to ensure accuracy.
