Forms a protective barrier within the ulcer
SE: aluminum toxicity, constipation, malabsorption syndromes
Aluminum Hydroxide
Antacid
SE: constipation, muscle weakness, osteodystrophy
OmeprAZOLE
PPI
SE: increased risk of C. diff infection, rebound GERD w/discontinuation, gastric hyperplasia w/chronic use, vitamin/mineral malabsorption w/chronic use
Metoclopramide
D2 agonist
SE: increased prolactin (and everything that goes with), drowsiness, extrapyramidal symptoms (acute dystonia, akathisia, bradykinesia, parkinsonisms, tardive dyskinesia)
MisoPROSTol
PGE1 analog (rarely used) SE: stimulates uterine contractions--don't use in pregnant women
Bismuth Subsalicylate
Coating agent + salicylate
Tx of ulcers (bismuth), diarrhea (salicylate inh of PG’s), antimicrobial
SE: Reye Syndrome (<18 y/o), subsalicylate toxicity, black tongue/stool, renal insufficiency
LansoprAZOLE
PPI
SE: increased risk of C. diff infection, rebound GERD w/discontinuation, gastric hyperplasia w/chronic use, malabsorption syndrome w/chronic use
Magnesium Hydroxide
Antacid
SE: diarrhea, hyporeflexia
