What is latent TB?

A

Mycobacterium persist.

Granulomatous lesions calcify and become fibrotic (seen on CXR)

Patients are not infectious and are asymptomatic.

What is miliary TB?

A

Widespread dissemination of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (see the image below) via hematogenous spread.

A

What is mycobacterium tuberculosis?

A

Obligate aerobe small bacillus

Over 60% of cell wall is composed of lipids so CANNOT retain dye (neither gram positive or negative)

Very slow growth due to cell wall
