Taxonomy Flashcards
Any organisms that lacks a distinct nucleus and membrane bounded organelles. Examples are Bacteria.
Prokaryotes
An organisms that have a distinct nucleus and has membrane bounded organelles and well defined chromosomes(genetic material)
Eukaryotes
Known as parasites. They reproduce by injecting their hereditary material (DNA or RNA) to the cells of its host. Does not grow by fission unlike bacterias.
Viruses
Unicellular, non vascular (doesn’t have the ability to transport water, nutrients through itself therefore limited in size) organisms that don’t form tissues. Motile organisms that moves by the means of flagella, cillia.
Protista
Multicellular, Non vascular that exhibit osmotrophic type of heterotrophic nutrition. Their cell walls are usually made up of chitin and releases spores for reproduction.
Fungi
Multicellular, non vascular or vascular, multi-tissued, autotrophic organisms. Their cell walls are made up of cellulose.
Plantae
Multicellular, multi-tissued, heterotrophs organisms. No cell wall present.
Animalia
Free-living unicellular organisms that reproduce by fission. Their genetic material is concentrated in a non-membrane bounded nuclear area. Motile by means of flagella. Contains unique cell wall called peptidoglycan
Monera
An arrangement based on a known characteristics of an organisms.
Biological Classification
Organisms are classified by its known physical characteristics.
Key Classification
Organisms are classified by their similarities in anatomy, life cycle, behavior, etc.
