Tawhid Flashcards
What is Tawhid?
The most important Islamic belief that Allah is The One God, he alone created the earth and he alone sustains it.
What are the key beliefs about Allah? (5)
- He is infinite
- Omnipotent and omniscience - sees all Creation
- Merciful and benevolent - sends prophets to help humans understand how to live a life following his will
- Transcendant but also immanent
- Fair and Just - test for afterlife
What does Tawhid enable the believer to do?
To understand that everything they have is by the will of Allah; completely dependent upon him.
Why do Muslims demonstrate a humble attitude?
Because there is nothing they can do without the kindness of Allah. No reason to be boastful; to do so would be sinful.
What can knowing that Allah is the ultimate provider do?
Enable a Muslim to be content with their life.
Why do they have nothing to fear?
Because everything, even the time of their death, is set by Allah. Whatever happens is his will.
What is the worst of all sins?
Shirk - placing anything above Allah is idolatry. Muslims consider followers of polytheistic religions to be committing shirk.
What do Muslims think about the Trinity?
The belief in Tawhid means they think the Trinity is completely wrong since Christians see God as three persons.
What do some Sunnis believe about Shi’a Muslims?
They believe that Shi’a Muslims do not fully believe in Tawhid because they believe in the 12 Imams who have special characteristics and are often seen as semi-divine.

‘God is the Creator of everything. He is the guardian over everything. Unto Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth.’
