Tarsometasarsal Joints Flashcards
1
Q
Type of joint
A
Overlapping synovial plane jts
- base of MT1 and medial cuneiform
- base of MT2 forms mortise with all three cuneiforms and articulates with all three
- base of MT3 and lateral cuneiform
- base of MT4 with cuboid and small part of lat cuneiform
- base of MT5 with cuboid
Capsule formed by thickenings of interosseous, plantar and dorsal TMT ligts
Synovial membrane attaches to art margins and lines and all non-art surfaces

Q
Supporting Ligaments
Dorsal=top of foot
Plantar=bottom of foot
A
Dorsal TMT - weak short slips between adjacent dorsal surfaces of tarsal bones and MTs
-between MTs and cuneiform/cuboid and adjacent MTs
Plantar TMT - similar slips connecting plantar surfaces
Interosseous TMT
- first ligt between anterolateral surface of med cuneiform and base of MT2
- second between anterolateral angle of lat cuneiform and base of MT4
- occasionally third runs between lat side of MT2 and lat cuneiform
