A

Origin- outer surface of lat fem condyle inf to epicondyle
Insertion- post surface of prox tibia, above soleal line

Innervation- Tibial L5
Action- lat rotates femur on tibia

Tibialis Posterior (Tom)

A

Origins- Med: post surface of tibia and IM
Lat: prox post surface of fibula
Insertions- tubercle of navicular and med cuneiform with extensions to all tarsal bones except talus

Innervation- Tibial L4-5
Actions- inversion of foot, assists in support of ML arch

Flexor Digitorum Longus (Dick)

A

Origin- med aspect, post surface of tibia
Insertion- 4 tendons to plantar aspect of bases of distal phalanges, not hallux

Innervation- Tibial L5,S1-2
Actions- flexion of toes 2-5 at DIP, PIP,MTP joints

Flexor Hallucis Longus (Harry)

A

Origin- lower 2/3 of post surface of fibula and IM
Insertion- plantar surface of base of distal phalanx of great toe

Innervation- Tibial S1-2
Action- flexion of all great toe joints

Tarsal Tunnel

Tom,Dick and Bloody Nervous Harry

A

TDBNH=order from med malleolus
-B=post tibial artery
-N=tibial nerve
tibial nerve divides into two terminal branches - the medial and lateral plantar nerves - as it passes through the tarsal tunnel

Affected by tarsal tunnel syndrome - a compressive neuropathy of the posterior tibial nerve
