Midtarsal Joint Flashcards
Type of Joint
Mixture of:
Talocalcaneonavicular- synovial ball and socket between Ball= head of talus
Sockets= post surface of navicular and deep surface of plantar calcaneonavicular (spring) ligament
And
Calcaneocuboid- synovial plane between ant.surf of calcaneus (concave) and post surface of cuboid (convex)
- Fibrous capsule, lined by synovial membrane surrounds joint
- Thickened above and below by dorsal and plantar calcaneocuboid ligts respectively
Supporting ligaments
Plantar calcaneocuboid (short plantar) - strong short broad band
- from rounded eminence on anteroinferior surface of calcaneus to plantar surface of cuboid behind ridge of peroneal groove
- reinforces joint capsule
Dorsal calcaneocuboid - thin broad band
-strengthens dorsal aspect of capsule
Bifurcate (2 parts) - strong connections between 1st,2nd row of tarsals
From upper calcaneal surface ant to sinus tarsi to:
-calcaneonavicular part runs slightly sup to lat surface of navicular
-calcaneocuboid part runs horizontally to dorsimedial angle of cuboid
Long plantar - attached posteriorly (bottom of foot)
From between ant and post calcaneal tubercles to:
-deep fibres on cuboid ridge
-intermediate to cuboid tuberosity
-superficial to lat four MT bases
Dorsal, plantar, interosseous cuboidnavicular ligts - also pass between cuboid and navicular
Movements available
Supination
Pronation
Combined with subtalar = inversion and eversion
- inversion at ST + supination at midT
- eversion at ST + pronation at midT
