Table 9-3 Flashcards
1
Q
What causes small, weak pulses?
A
Decreased stroke volume (HF, hypovolemia, severe aortic stenosis)
Increased peripheral resistance (exposure to sever hold, severe HF)
2
Q
What caused large bounding pulses?
A
- Increased stroke volume, decreased peripheral resistance (fever, anemia, hyperthyroid, AV fistulas, PDA)
- Increased stroke volume because of slow heard rates (brady, heart block)
- Decreased compliance (increased stiffness) of aortic walls- aging, atherosclerosis
3
Q
What is an increased arterial pulse that has a double systolic peak?
A
Biferiens pulse
4
Q
What is a pulse that alternated in amplitude from beat to beat, but the rhythm is basically regular?
A
Pulsus Alternans
5
Q
What is a pulse that is caused by a normal beat alternating with a premature contraction?
A
Bigeminal pulse
6
Q
What is a pulse that have a decrease on quiet inspiration. Systolic pressure is decreases by more than 10 mm Hg during inspiration?
A
Paradoxical pulse
