T7 Respiration: Glycolysis and Link Flashcards
Name the four stages of respiration
GLYCOLYSIS
LINK
KREBS
ETC and Oxidative Phosphorylation
Describe the full process of glycolysis
Glucose 6C is coverted into Glucose-6-phosphate (One ATP used)
Glucose-6-phosphate is converted into hexose-1,6-bisphosphate (One ATP used)
Hexose-1,6-bisphosphate is unstable so breaks down into two molecules of triose phosphate (3C)
Each molecule of triose phosphate is converted into pyruvate 3C, producing two molecules of ATP and one NADH and H+ per molecule
WHere does glycolysis occur
Cytoplasm
Where does the link reaction occur
Matrix of the mitochondria
Describe the link reaction
Each molecule of pyruvate is converted into Acetyl CoA
CO2 is produced
NAD is converted into NADH and H+
CoA enzyme is used
How many carbons in Acetyl CoA
