Why do denture fracture?
A
- impact
- acrylic in thin section
- work hardening of metal
- parafunctional habits
- occlusion: deep overbite
- soft linings
- denture processing problem: porosity
- bonding between tooth and base acrylic/ acrylic and CoCr

Midline fracture of complete denture
A
- if fractured pieces can be located together
- disinfect and send to lab
- no impression needed
- cast poured
- fractured area removed and new acrylic processed

Pieces of denture missing
A
Part of acrylic flange lost
- impression taken with fractured denture in mouth
- disinfect
- cast poured
- new acrylic processed into defect

Loss of acrylic tooth
A
- easy if tooth debonded and pt has the tooth
- tricky if tooth is lost
- if its a repeat failure, then may need to redesign prosthesis

Fracture of Acrylic- CoCr
A
- may need to add retentive tag
- solder on tags
- use 4-META/ silicoat CoCr to retain acrylic on CoCr
