What is immediate addition?

A
  • when tooth is lost after denture construction and tooth added on the day of tooth extraction

What is post- immediate addition?

A
  • when tooth is lost after denture construction and at a later date tooth added

What is retention addition?

A
  • when denture retention is inadequate, a clasp is added to try to improve retention
  • usually a wrought SS clasp

Clinical issues for additions

A
  • usually require impression of arch with denture to be added in mouth during impression
  • can do a chairside addition in self-cure acrylic, but often temporary
  • additions to acrylic is easier than CoCr
  • addition is impossible when there is lingual bar connector
  • may need to add retentive tag, solder on tag/ use 4-META to retain acrylic on CoCr

A
  • low impact resistance
  • poor resistance to fracture fatigue (has to be thick)
  • poor impact strength
  • water absorption & candida growth
  • allergy to residual monomer
  • denture whitening
  • risks to technicians
