A
- immediate additions

What is immediate addition?
A
- when tooth is lost after denture construction and tooth added on the day of tooth extraction

What is post- immediate addition?
A
- when tooth is lost after denture construction and at a later date tooth added

What is retention addition?
A
- when denture retention is inadequate, a clasp is added to try to improve retention
- usually a wrought SS clasp

Clinical issues for additions
A
- usually require impression of arch with denture to be added in mouth during impression
- can do a chairside addition in self-cure acrylic, but often temporary
- additions to acrylic is easier than CoCr
- addition is impossible when there is lingual bar connector
- may need to add retentive tag, solder on tag/ use 4-META to retain acrylic on CoCr

- cheap
- easy to add to/ reline/ repair
- easier to make
- aesthetic

Disadvantages of Acrylic
A
- low impact resistance
- poor resistance to fracture fatigue (has to be thick)
- poor impact strength
- water absorption & candida growth
- allergy to residual monomer
- denture whitening
- risks to technicians
