How to do jaw reg

A
  • put in upper block
  • get anterior plane (interpupillary line)correct and posterior occlusal plane (ala tragus line)
  • use Fox’s bite plane
  • mark centreline, canine line
  • put in lower block
  • need to look at profile of block
  • horizontal and vertical component- guide the pt into a retruded position
  • ensure sufficient FWS
  • use Willis bite gauge
  • use jaw registration paste to register occlusion

Replica vs Conventional

A

Replica
- keeps existing design easier to adapt
- maintain existing aesthetics
- 1 less clinical stage
- simpler jaw reg
- only 1 imp in mouth
- major modifications difficult -> can reproduce faults
- easier to observe changes to original

Conventional
- use if no previous denture/ previous one is poor
- can change aesthetics significantly as start from scratch
- takes longer
- jaw reg complex
- 2 imp stages in mouth
- can make major modifications
- good if there is significant ridge resorption
