T1: Occlusion for Partial Dentures Flashcards
1
Q
What is occlusion?
A
- static relationship between incising / masticating surfaces of maxillary/ mandibular teeth/ tooth analogues
2
Q
What is intercuspal position? ICP
A
- complete intercuspation of opposing teeth independant of condylar position, sometimes referred to as the best fir of teeth regardless of condylar position
3
Q
What is retruded contact position? RCP
A
- guided occlusal relationship occuring at the most retruded position of condyles in the joint cavities
4
Q
What are index teeth?
A
- contacting facets of teeth in intercuspal position
5
Q
ICP vs RCP
A
- where possible try to conform to existing occlusion
6
Q
Conforming or Changing occlusion
A
Conforming
- works best in a stable occlusion with sufficient index teeth
- ensure prosthesis doesn’t alter occlusion
- usually use ICP
Changing
- often occlusion is unstable and lack of sufficient index teeth
- often use RCP
- usually more challenging to record occlusion
7
Q
Articulated study casts
A
- record occlusion
- occasionally casts can be articulated together without need for any formal recording of occlusion
- more accurate articulation by obtaining an inter-occlusal record
8
Q
What to use for interocclusal record?
A
- Bite registration paste - silicone paste
- wax wafer - modelling wax
- modified wax wafer - alminax
9
Q
if insuficient teeth, how to record occlusion?
A
- record blocks needed
10
Q
Types of record blocks?
A
- wax
- wire strengthener
- CoCr base
- Shellac base
