What is Dupuytren’s contracture?
A thickening of the fascia causing a contracture
Causes: genetic, smoking, alcohol, diabetes, epilepsy
What causes ‘trigger finger’?
Repetitive movement that causes inflammation and restriction in movement
A nodule (bump) on the tendon can appear which causes contractures
Which muscles make up the thenar group?
Adductor pollicis
Abductor pollicis brevis
Flexor pollicis brevis
Opponens pollicis
What are some carpal tunnel signs?
Thenar wasting, loss of abduction, loss of opposition
What is paradoxical wasting of the thenar muscles?
Caused by ulnar nerve compression
Causes interosseous muscles to go and cause collapse of the muscles above it
What is de Qeurvain’s disease?
Affects the thumb tendons
Caused by degeneration, overuse, Ciprofloxacin, Anastrazole
What is the acronym to remember the carpal bones?
Some lovers try positions that they can’t handle
How does osteoarthritis appear on an x-ray?
There is loss of joint space and increased density of the bone
The bone will look irregular because osteocytes will cause cysts
