What are the 3 divisions of the foot and what is contained within each one?
Hindfoot
-Calcaneus, talus, and ankle joint
Midfoot
-Talonavicular joint up to the tarsal metatarsal joint
Forefoot
-Metatarsals and toes
Why is the Achilles tendon vulnerable to pathology?
- It has no tendon sheath but is instead surrounded by a paratenon (connective tissue)
- Poor blood supply
- Blood supply is weakest 2-6cm from the calcaneal attachment
Where does rupture of the Achilles tendon happen?
In the hypovascular area 2-6cm from the calcaneal attachment
Which tendon is used for Achilles transplant?
Flexor hallucis longus because it’s so close to the Achilles
What are the symptoms of injury to the tibialis posterior tendon?
Post malleolar pain
Arch pain
Progressive flat foot deformity
What is the posterior anterior draw test for?
Chronic instability in the ankle
A dent will appear if there is instability
What is hallux valgus?
A bunion
