T11: TACO vs TRALI Flashcards
TACO
cardiogenic pulmonary edema; is transfusion associated circulatory volume overload
clinical manifestations of TACO
shortness of breath, tachypnea, hypoxemia, +JVD, hypertension (BASICALLY S/S of CHF)
treatment for TACO
oxygen, intubation and mechanical ventilation, diuresis
TRALI
(Transfusion-Related Acute Lung Injury): fluid leaks into the alveolar space because of alveolar-capillary damage
clinical manifestations of TRALI
shortness of breath, tachypnea, hypoxemia, hypotension, fever, OCCURS DURING OR WITHIN 6 HOURS AFTER A TRANSFUSION
treatment for TRALi
oxygen, intubation, and mechanical ventilation, administer fluids due to hypotension
BP for TRALI
low to normal
BP for TACO
normal to high
temp for TRALI
normal to elevated
Temo for TACO
normal
CXR for TRALI
White out, normal heart size, NO pleural effusions
CXR for TACO
White out, normal to increased heart size, pleural effusions
BNP for TRALI
Low <250 pg/mL
BNP for TACO
high
echo for TRALI
normal heart function
