T-spine Flashcards
The T-spine is often termed the ____ region due to its regional independence relationship with other areas of the body.
cinderella region
definition: determines the amount of available movement between spinal segments by applying passive motion and palpating between adjacent spinous processes
PPIVMS (passive physiological intervertebral movements)
While performing PPIVMS what directions should you assess?
Only assess the directions limited during the AROM assessment
definition: determines the end-feel of segmental joint motion in ONE direction by applying passive motion at the end-range of restricted movement
PAIVMS (passive accessory intervertebral movements)
When you find a segment during PPIVM testing, (immediately perform/wait) to do a PAIVM
immediately perform a PAIVM when a hypomobile segment is found
Describe a thoracic EXT PAIVM.
- Stabilize superior vertebrae while holding the trunk in EXT
- push lower segment anterior and superior
Describe Thoracic FLX PAIVM.
- stabilize the inferior vertebrae
- pull inferiorly on the lower segment and use the other arm to FLX the trunk of the patient
Describe thoracic SB and ROT PAIVM.
- Stabilize inferior vertebrae
- further SB/ROT the patients trunk while applying pressure to the contralateral side of ROT/SB
What are you assessing for with a Thoracic PA assessment?
pain and hypomobility
What is the most common movement restriction of the T-spine?
EXT
What can T-spine EXT restriction cause?
- FWD, rounded shoulder posture
- increased Lumbar lordosis
- decreased walking speed
- decreased SPO2 levels
What is the CPR/predictor variables to provide Thoracic Manipulation to treat neck pain?
- symptom duration < 30 days
- no symptoms distal to the shoulder
- looking up does NOT aggravate symptoms
- FABOPA < 12
- diminished upper t-spine kyphosis
- cervical EXT < 30 degrees
