Systems Lecture (Articulations) Flashcards
Classifications of joints
Fibrous: held together by connective tissue
Cartilagenous: joined by cartilage
Synocial: fluid filled synovial cavity, bones enclosed within a capsule, joined by various ligaments
Functional Classification
Synarthrosis: immovable joints
Amphiarthrosis: semi movable
Diarthrosis: freely movable
Fibrous Joints
Gumphosis- hold teeth down
Suture- between cranial bone plates
Syndesmosis- helt together by fibrous ligaments ( distal radial ulnar joing, distal tibiofibular joint)
Cartilaginous
Synchondroses- between sternum and ribs (contain hyaline cartilage)
Symphyses- pubic symphysis, IVDs (contain fibrocartilage)
Synovial
Planar: carpal/tarsal bones/ between vertebrae
Hinge: elbow, knee, DIP, PIPs of foot and hand
Pivot: dens and axis, distal and proximal radioulnar joints
