Systems Lecture Flashcards
Autonomic Nervous
Governs involuntary actions works with SNS to regulate body organs
SNS under voluntary control, ANS involuntary
Two neuron chain in ANS
Preganglionic neuron: cell body in the brain or the spinal cord
Pregnaglionic axon: extends to the second cell body housed within an autonomic ganglion in the PNS
Postganglionic neuron: second neuron in pathway
Postganglionic axon: extends from cell body to targe cells
Divisions of ANS
Parasympathetic- conservation of energy and replenishment of nutrient (rest and digest/fuck)
Sympathetic- preparation of body for emergencies (fight or flight)
Parasympathetic Division
Preganglionic neurons located in brainstem nuclei (CN III: mid brain, CN VII pons/medulla, CN IX medulla, CN X medulla, and S2-S4 segments of spinal cord)
BRINGS BODY TO HOMEOSTASIS
Sympathetic Division
Origin: Preganglionic Neurons located in lateral horns of T1-L2 segments of spinal cord
Collateral Ganglia types
Esophageal: heart, esophagus, lungs
Celiac ganglia: heart, stomach, liver, pancreas, kidneys, spleen, gall baldder, lungs
Sup. mesenteric: small intestine
Inf. Mesenteric: large intestine
Hypogastric ganglia: reproductive organs, bladder
Glands
Pancreas:
Adrenal glands
Seminal vesicle gland
Prostate glands
Bulbourethral gland:
Neutotransmitters
All preganglionic axons release ACh
All post ganglionic parasympathetic release ACh
All post ganglionic sympathetic release NE except for sweat glands which are ACh
