Symbiotic Relationships Flashcards
Mutualism
Symbiotic relationship between two organisms that both benefit. Example: Ants and caterpillars
Commensalism

One benefits, one doesn’t get much benefits
Example: serpent star and sponge
Amensalism

Predation
One organism benefits from the death of another
Example: Fox and bunny
Competition
Two organisms interact and both are negatively impacted
Examples:
Parasitism
One organism has a positive organism interaction while the other has a negative interaction. (not always death)
Example: Liver Fluke
Parasitoidism
Like parasitism and predation mixed
Essentially parasitism but one organism dies
Example: Tarantula wasp and spider venom
Benefits both
Mutalism
One benefits, one has no effect
Commensalism
One benefits, one has negative effects
Parasitism
Kills one benefits the other
Predation
No effect on one and negative effect on the other
Amensalism
Negative effects on both
Competition
No effects on either
Neutralism
