Surveying Flashcards
why is surveying carried out
to highlight undercut areas that can be utilised by clasps for retention and and undercuts which need to be eliminated on anterior saddles
what are guide planes?
two or more parallel tooth surfaces which determine the path of insertion
what is the path of insertion
path followed by denture from first contact with teeth/tissue until it fully seats
what is the path of displacement
any path in which the denture can be displaced
what is the common path of displacement
taken at 90 degrees to the occlusal plane
what is the first step in surveying
position the cast on the surveyor table and orientate to the common path of displacement (with ruler)
what is the second step in surveying
tripod cast as common path of displacement
once the tripod lines are in place what do you do next?
survey the cast with the analysing rod to look for undercuts on abutment teeth and soft tissues
what do you do after using the analysing rod
mark upper and lower survey lines on abutment teeth and associated soft tissues with graphite marker
what does tripoding record
the orientation of the cast whether that be common path or altered path
what tools does the surveyor have?
chuck (where rods sit), analysing rod, graphite markers, 3 undercut gauges, red marker
