Hall Technique Flashcards
when is the hall technique used?
primary molar caries but no pulpal involvement. Sufficient tooth available to crown
what equipment do you need for the hall technique?
mirror, probe, excavator, cement, flat plastic, gauze, band-forming pliers
how do you choose crown size?
best guess and check
how do you place a hall crown?
mix cement and load into crown ensuring no air bubbles, place over dry surface and push down until partially seated when meeting contact point. get patient to bite down and leave for 2 mins with child biting down
where should the crown be sitting
slightly high as there is no occlusal reduction, margin should be subgingival
what is the advantage of the hall crown?
time efficient for children that wont sit long, no LA/tooth prep/caries removal and high success rate
how do you mix GI?
3 scoops powder to 3 drops water. Take powder into liquid and ensure spatula is cleaned
how is a conventional crown different to a hall crown?
clear contacts with tapered diamond separating bur to achieve around 15 degree angle and knife edge finish, reduce occlusal height by approximately 1-2mm, ensure rounded angles, select crown and contour as with hall
