Bonding and Caries Progression Flashcards
1
Q
how does composite bond to dentine
A
hybrid layer formed through dentine bonding agent (primer and resin bis-GMA). Hydrophilic end of DBA bonds to wet dentine and fills tubules, hydrophobic end polymerises with resin
2
Q
how does GI bond to tooth
A
hydrogen and mineral bonds with collagen. The calcium in the tooth is chelated by COO in polyacid. Reprecipitation of calcium phosphate from apatite and calcium salts from GI onto tooth surface
3
Q
what happens if the bond to teeth fail?
A
microleakage and secondary caries leading to pulpitis and pulpal necrosis
