baby is:
- unstable
- distended abdomen
- bringing up fluid in nasal tube
- has cardio problems
- tender abdomen
- abdomen slightly discoloured
what is wrong?
- can see abdomen distended
- can see bowel loops
- the light grey haziness is the liver
- there is blackness on gut and liver
- some little bubbles in wall of the bowel
- there is a loop of bowel sitting to low showing a hernia
- the baby could has a perforation in the bowel
- there is a hernia in the gut
what does blackness suggest on an Xray?
air
-this could suggest a leak
what is the first poo a baby does and when do they need to do it?
- meconium (a black poo)
- 48 hours
what is adrenal atresia associated with?
downsyndrome
what is adrenal atresia?
-a problem in newborn infants that causes partial or complete closure (atresia) of the lumen of the duodenum
if a child has been vomiting what should you ask?
what colour their vomit is
what can green vomit suggest?
-malrotation and volvulus
what is the investigation for malrotation and volvulus?
-CT abdomen with contrast
what investigation should be done if a neonate is vomiting blood?
-CT abdomen with contrast incase it is malrotation and volvulus
what occurs to the bowel in malrotation and volvulus?
the bowel twists
what occurs if you leave malrotation and volvulus?
-the bowel dies
