A

Talk through rotary screen printing.

A

The screens are cylindrical and their circumference determines the size of the print. The printing paste is pumped into the cylinders and squeezes through the fine mesh screen on the fabric moving beneath.

Talk through flat-bed printing.

A

The fabric is laid out flat on a surface. A screen moves along the fabric one screen width at a time, the screen is lowered and the paste is squeezed through the mesh then goes onto the next section.

What is block and roller?

A

The roller has a copper surface which has a cut design on, each roller is used for a different colour. The paste is fed into the roller and pressed onto the fabric passing below. The design is built up by having more than one roller with different patterns.

What is transfer printing?

A

The application of heat and special dyes. These dyes are on paper and with high temps it causes the dye to change into gas and attach themselves to the fabric when they return solid.

What is discharge printing?

A

The fabric is dyed first, then over printed with a chemical paste to distort the dye. The ares which have been destroyed show a different colour to the background.
