Manufactoring System Flashcards
What is batch production?
Small numbers produced (2/3 hundred/thousand) of identical products,
A team of people make them
Product may change depending on order coming in
Production costs are lower.
What is mass production?
Straight line production Works through series of work stations Large quantities of the same product Machinery runs 24/7 Lowers cost of unit
What is vertical production?
When there is complete control over a products production, from raw materials to final assembly,
Eg dyeing, finishing, designing, sewing, cutting, marking.
This makes the process faster from designing to getting it on the shelves.
What is JIT production?
Just in time production,
Where all products arrive at the manufacturing point just in time for production to reduct cost.
What are pre manufactured components?
When things like buttons, zips, and such awe ordered in to put straight onto the product but brought in from another company.
Examples of subsystems.
Lay planning, working the quantity and cost of material
Costing, estimate how much each product costs to make, including material, labour, rent and energy costs
Quality control, checking quality at all stages.
What is one off production?
Assembled by one operator or a few, Only made once or in very small quantities, Product is unique, Highly skilled, Labour intensive, Expensive.
