Q

What is CAM? Give some examples.

A

Computer Aided Manufacture, a Term to describe production processes which are done by computer controlled machines.
Cam systems can work with chemicals which are harmful to humans,
Machine can work continuously
Quality is more consistent
Used in stores with bar codes and such
Doing a lay plan and laser cutting the pieces.

Q

What is CAD? Give some examples.

A

CAD stands for Computer Aided Design. It helps develop ideas, by:
Experiment with colours and textures
Designing repeat patterns, knitted/woven patterns and embroidery
Making virtual prototypes
Developing pattern templates
Communicate ideas through presentation boards

Q

How can computers be used to help with design?

A

To design sketches and overlay colour
To hold and create patterns on computer files (for future too)
To transform designs into three dimensional shapes and and transport these into two dimensional pattern drawings
The structure and the drape can be represented visually.
