These are fibres and fabrics which have been developed for their performance and function properties.
Give some examples of technical materials.
Gore-tex - water repellent
Nomex - fire retardant
Kevlar - bullet proof

Micro-encapsulated - fragrances added to the fibres
Memory foam - pressure sensitive which moulds to the shape of the body
Interactive or electronic textiles - interactive fabrics which in operates electrons.
Thermo chromic colour - changes colour with heat
Definition of smart materials.
Smart materials react and/or respond to the user and/or the environment.
Definition of technical textiles.
Technical textiles are fabrics and fibres that are developed for their unique properties.
What do smart materials do?
Smart materials can sense, react and adapt to the conditions around them.
