What is a surface area?

A

Area of all surfaces or faces on a 3-D shape.

Area of a cuboid = Area of 2 squares+Area of two rectangles

Area of cylinder = Area of two circles+ Area of rectangle

Why is surface area important for digestion?

A

The greater the surface area, the more there is for enzymes to get to work and break down the food.

The greater the surface area, the greater is the rate of absorption specially in small intestine.

A

Sugar granules are small and hence total surface area of all granules put together is more than one large cube.So its easier to dissolve.
