Q

What is the origin, insertion, function, and innervation for the THYROHYOID muscle?

A

Ori: Thyroid cartilage
Ins: Hyoid bone
Fun: Depresses hyoid bone and elevates larynx (b/c neither are fixed, brings together)
Inn: Thyrohyoid branch of C1

Q

What is the origin, insertion, function, and innervation for the DIGASTRIC muscle?

A

Ori:
–Anterior Belly: Digastric notch of mandible
–Posterior Belly: MASTOID notch of temporal bone
Ins: Tendinous ‘sling’ attached to hyoid
Fun: Depresses mandible & elevates hyoid
Inn:
–Anterior Belly: Nerve to mylohyoid, branch of inferior alveolar nerve of V3
–Posterior Belly: Branch of CN VII (facial nerve)

Q

What is the origin, insertion, function, and innervation for the STYLOHYOID muscle?

A

Ori: Styloid process of temporal bone
Ins: Hyoid bone
Fun: Elevates hyoid and draws posteriorly (Makes sense. Think of origin!)
Inn: Stylohyoid branch of CN VII (FACIAL NERVE)-again think about ORIGIN.

Q

What is the origin, insertion, function, and innervation for the MYLOHYOID muscle?

A

Ori: Mylohyoid line of mandible
Ins: Anterior fibers of mylohyoid attach to mylohyoid raphe, which attaches to the hyoid. Posterior mylohyoid fibers attach directly to hyoid
Fun: Elevates the floor of the mouth and the hyoid bone while depressing the mandible.
Inn: Mylohyoid branch of the inferior alveolar branch of V3

Q

What is the origin, insertion, function, and innervation for the GENIOHYOID muscle?

A

Ori: Inferior genial (mental) spines
Ins: Hyoid
Fun: Elevates the hyoid AND draws it forward. Also depresses mandible
Inn: C1 through the hypoglossal nerve (CN XII)
