Superifical Back muscles Flashcards
List the superficial back muscles
- Latissimus Dorsi
- Trapezius
- Levator Scapulae
- Rhomboid Major
- Rhomboid Minor
(They move the upper limb)
What is the origin of the Trapezius muscle?
- Superior unchallenged Line
- External Occipital Protuberance
- Ligamentum Nuchae
- C7-T12 Spinous Processes
What is the insertion of the trapezius muscle
- Spine of scapula
- Acromion
- Lateral third of clavicle
What is the action of the upper part of the trapezius
Elevates the scapula
What is the action of the middle part of the trapezius
Retracts scapula
- pulls closer to midline
What is the action of the lower part of the trapezius
Depresses the scapula
What is the action of the upper and lower parts of the trapezius muscle together
They will rotate scapula to abduct the upper limb above the shoulder
What is the motor/ cranial nerve of the trapezius muscle?
Accessory Nerve/ Cranial Nerve XI (11)
What nerve serves as proprioception for the trapezius muscle?
C3 and C4 Spinal Nerves
(Provide self-awareness)
What artery serves as the main blood supply for the Trapezius muscle?
Superficial Branch of the Transverse cervical Artery
What is the origin of the Latissimus Dorsi?
- T7 to L5 Spinous processes
2. Sacrum and iliac Crest
What is the insertion of the Latissimus Dorsi?
Floor of intertubercular Sulcus
What are the actions of the Latissimus Dorsi?
- Abducts humerus
- Medially rotates Humerus
- Extends humerus
What is the neurovascular supply of the Latissimus Dorsi?
- Thoracodorsal nerve
2. Thoracodorsal artery
What muscles are deep to the trapezius?
- Levator Scapulae Muscle
- Rhomboid Minor Muscle
- Rhomboid Major Muscle
