Deep Back Muscles Flashcards
What is the deep back muscles?
- Splenius Capitis and Cervicis
2 Erector Spinae - Semispinalis Capitis
What are the main body parts that the deep back muscles move?
Back
Neck
Head
What is the origin of the Splenius Cervicis Muscle?
Spinous Processes of upper thoracic vertebrae
What is the insertion of the splenius Cervicis muscle?
Transverse processes of C1-C4 vertebrae
What is the origin of the Splenius Capitis Muscle
Ligamentum Nuchae
What is the insertion of the Splenius Capitis Muscle
Lateral part of superior nuchal line and mastoid process
What are the actions of the splenius muscles when contracting unilaterally (just one side only)
Laterally flexes neck and rotates head toward the ipsilateral (same) side
What are the actions of the splenius muscles when contracting bilaterally (both sides)
Extends the head and neck
What is the origin of the Erector Spinae muscles
Sacrum, iliac crest
What is the insertion of the Erector Spinae Muscles?
Somewhere in the back
What is the action of the erector Spinae muscles when contracting unilaterally?
- Laterally flex’s the trunk toward the ipsilateral side
What are the actions of the erector Spinae muscles when contracting bilaterally?
Extends the trunk
What are the 3 parts of Erector Spinae Muscles?
- iliocostalis Muscles
- Longissimus Muscles
- Spinalis muscle
What are the insertions of the iliocostalis muscle?
-Into ribs
What is the insertion of the longissimus muscle?
- Transverse Process
