  • erector spinae spinalis: most medial
  • erector spinae longissimus: intermediate
  • erector spinae iliocostalis: most lateral
  • spinalis and longi: thoracis, cervicis and capitis portions
  • iliocostalis: lumborum, thoracis and cervicis portions
  • To maintain the upright posture.
    Acting unilaterally they can laterally
    flex the trunk.
