role of the digestive system
The process in which carbohydrates, protiens and fat molecules are broken down to be absorbed into the blood
6 basic activities that the digestive system achieves
- Ingestion of food and water

- Chemical digestion of food
- Movement of food along the alimentary canal
- Absorption of digested food and water into the blood and lymph
- Elimination of material that is not absorbed
What is mechanical digestion
Breakdown of food into smaller particles
- Occurs in the mouth stomach
What is chemical digestion
Salivary glands contain mucas and a digestive enzyme that breaks down large molecules into smaller ones
primary source of amino acids + fatty acids
