  • Consists of organs, ducts and nodes

A
  • Collect + returns interstitial fluid, including plasma protein to the blood- maintaining fluid balance.
  • Defend the body against disease by transporting lymphocytes.
  • Absorb lipids from the intestine and transport them to the blood.

  • begin as blind ended tubes

- Valves in capillary walls are pushed open by interstitial fluid which moves into the vessel

Describe lymph vessles

A
  • Capillaries join to larger vessels called lymphatic vessels.
  • Lymph is moved along the vessel by surrounding muscle contractions.
  • Also have valves (like veins) to prevent backflow.

Found in clumps in the neck, under the arms and in the groin.
