GREAT TERROR- army- serverly weakened- experinced officers were removed
- lack of experience of army soldiers threatened USSR when G attacked in 1941
- whole country weakened- many talented individuals removed from society
COLLECTIVISATION- peasants who refused to hand over food were left to starve- caused anger- protests
- collective farming- inefficient- peasants unfamiliar with new farming methods
- grain production initially decreased
- famines occurred
