structure of upper GI Flashcards
lining of nasal cavity and airway? Of pharynx and esophagus
pseudostratified columnar with cilia and goblet cells. Stratified non keratinized squamous
what do nasal and oral cavities from from? The pharynx, airway and esophagus?
ectodermal invagination (stomodeum). Foregut (splanchnopleure)
Layers of most hollow organs
mucosa (simple columnar epithelium, lamina propria, muscularis mucosae), submucosa (with CT, meissner’s plexus), muscularis externa (inner circular and outer longitudinal SM, Auerbach’s plexus), serosa/adventitia (loose CT continuous with mesentery, simple squamous epithelium)
acini found in the various salivary glands
sublingual: mucous, Parotid: serous. Submandibular: mixed. Also, intercalated ducts (smaller than acinus) and striated ducts (larger than acinus and pump ions)
four kinds of papillae
filiform (pointed, no buds), fungiform (domes with buds), foliate (ridges with buds), circumvallate (on sulcus terminalis with buds and serous von ebner’s glands)
epithelium of tongue and oral cavity
strat squamous, keratinized or parakeratinized (nuclei retained)
tonsils: what are they? where?
aggregations of lymph nodules (not nodes). Lingual, palatine (with crypts), pharyngeal. All are in the pharynx
Composition of esophagus: epithelium, muscle
stratified squamous. Striated upper 1/3, smooth lower 1/3, mixed in middle
innervation of pharynx and larynx and esophagus
Vagus Nerve. Branchiomotor (recurrent laryngeal) for striate mm. in pharynx and upper esophagus. Parasymp for SM in rest of fore and midgut.
